I wrote this post within milliseconds after the first of <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/2010\/11\/04\/amazing-close-ups-of-comet-hartley-2\/\">these awesome images<\/a> came out, but somehow didn&#8217;t publish it.  Now they are <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/80beats\/2010\/11\/04\/comet-flyby-yields-close-ups-of-the-lumpy-icy-hartley-2\/\">all over the place<\/a>, and the message is ancient news in internet-time.  But the science is timeless!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/SciWriAlicia\/status\/29674638888\">tweet<\/a> by Alicia Chang says it all:  &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/103P\/Hartley\">Comet Hartley 2<\/a> looks like a peanut.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission_pages\/epoxi\/index.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/cosmicvariance\/files\/2010\/11\/495272main_epoxi-1-427.jpg\" alt=\"Comet Hartley 2\" width=\"427\" height=\"226\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5720\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is the first close-up image from a fly-by of the comet by NASA&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Deep_Impact_%28spacecraft%29\">Deep Impact<\/a> mission.  <a href=\"http:\/\/news.nationalgeographic.com\/news\/2010\/11\/101104-science-space-comet-hartley-2-nasa-epoxi-deep-impact\/\">Expect more coming in<\/a>.
