Did vacuum energy just surge in popularity all of a sudden?  If you look for &#8220;cosmological constant&#8221; in Google or other search engines, one of the first things that comes up is a short <a href=\"http:\/\/pancake.uchicago.edu\/~carroll\/encyc\" \/>article<\/a> I wrote for the Encyclopedia of Astronomy and Astrophysics some time back.  On an average day there might be ten or so hits on that web page; but thus far today there have been well over two hundred, from a collection of different search engines.  Did the cosmological constant get mentioned on Oprah or something?
