There are a bunch more newspaper stories out there (including these from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsday.com\/news\/health\/ny-hshawk223901697jul22,0,3879205.story?coll=ny-health-headlines\">Newsday<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theledger.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20040722\/ZNYT03\/407220477\">New York Times<\/a> that were nice enough to quote me).  Also, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/innovators\/science\/profile_maldacena.html\">Juan Maldacena<\/a> and I appeared together today on Odyssey, the program hosted by the very same Gretchen Helfrich who will soon be our official <a href=\"http:\/\/preposterousuniverse.blogspot.com\/2004\/07\/guest-blogger-gretchen.html\">guest-blogger<\/a>.  No quid-pro-quo was involved, I promise.  You are welcome to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagopublicradio.org\/audio_library\/od_rajul04.asp#22\">listen to the program<\/a> if you have RealAudio.<\/p>\n<p>Just to show you that scientists don&#8217;t always agree, two representative quotes.  First, Leonard Susskind in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theledger.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20040722\/ZNYT03\/407220477\">Times<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Until Stephen&#8217;s recent reversal, he was about the only person still getting it wrong.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>  Susskind is a string theorist who thinks that it&#8217;s already been figured out, nothing to see here, time to move on.  Next, from my colleague <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/articles\/2004\/07\/22\/1090464797969.html?oneclick=true\">Bob Wald<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Hawking is completely revising his prior belief that what goes into a black hole is washed out. Now he believes that anything emitted from a black hole can be identifiable back to its source.  He&#8217;s running away from what we still believe.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>  Wald is a general-relativist, quite skeptical about the claimed mechanisms for getting the information out.  This is the problem with thought-experiments; they&#8217;re not nearly so conclusive as actual experiment-experiments.<br \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Enough talking about Hawking, I would think.
