So I&#8217;m in no condition to comment on the mild <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danieldrezner.com\/archives\/001657.html\">kerfluffle<\/a> that has broken out, ironically immediately after the announcement of <a href=\"http:\/\/411blog.net\/\">411blog<\/a>, in response to <a href=\"http:\/\/yglesias.typepad.com\/matthew\/2004\/09\/where_have_all_.html\">Matthew Yglesias&#8217; lament<\/a> that there aren&#8217;t enough expert bloggers. But I was glad to see my honor (and, incidentally, the honor of some other people) defended by <a href=\"http:\/\/pharyngula.org\/index\/weblog\/comments\/lets_all_jump_on_matthew_yglesias\/\">PZ Myers<\/a> and other bloggy luminaries.<\/p>\n<p>However, given my druthers, I&#8217;d prefer to have <a href=\"http:\/\/fafblog.blogspot.com\/2004_09_26_fafblog_archive.html#109642153293676312\">Fafblog<\/a> exhort people to send me money.  Flattery is nice, but it doesn&#8217;t pay the mortgage.<\/p>\n<p>(Honestly, there&#8217;s a pretty basic fact here &#8212; by percentage, most people in the world are not experts. They&#8217;re not especially good writers, either. This is one of the first things you realize, I thought everyone knew, when you rambled around the internet &#8212; there&#8217;s a very good reason why magazines have editors, rather than just being first-come-first-published.
