{"id":1025,"date":"2006-11-13T12:14:27","date_gmt":"2006-11-13T17:14:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/cosmicvariance\/2006\/11\/13\/navel-gazing-links\/"},"modified":"2006-11-13T12:14:27","modified_gmt":"2006-11-13T17:14:27","slug":"navel-gazing-links","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/preposterousuniverse.com\/blog\/2006\/11\/13\/navel-gazing-links\/","title":{"rendered":"Navel-Gazing Links"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following in <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/cosmicvariance\/2006\/11\/12\/travel-travel-and-more-travel\/\">JoAnne&#8217;s<\/a> footsteps, I&#8217;ve been in the midst of arguably my most exhausting bout of <a href=\"http:\/\/preposterousuniverse.com\/activities\/\">insane traveling<\/a> ever &#8212; nine different stops over the course of less than a month, two of which involved two talks in one day!  And one of which was at my old Philadelphia stomping grounds, where the people of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelberube.com\/index.php\/weblog\/capital_gains\/\">great-but-occasionally-confused<\/a> state of Pennsylvania had recently rid themselves of the creepy menace that is Rick Santorum.  (Actually, Michael, it&#8217;s a great-but-occasionally-confused <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Commonwealth#United_States\">commonwealth<\/a>, but you&#8217;re a Francophone carpetbagger so that&#8217;s okay.)  And where I was greeted, upon driving out of the airport, by a lovely billboard proclaiming <a href=\"http:\/\/nextdirection.blogspot.com\/2006\/10\/santorum-is-not-good-for-senate.html\">Santorum is Good for Senate<\/a> (sic).  With snappy slogans like that one, perched precariously at the grammatical cutting edge, I can&#8217;t imagine how he lost.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m looking forward to settling back down to bucolic LA and churning out the high-quality blogging that CV readers expect.  In the meantime, a couple of links distinguished by the fact that they link to us!  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We have received our first (as far as I know) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianmay.com\/brian\/brianssb\/brianssb.html\">link from a bona-fide rock star<\/a> &#8212; Brian May of Queen, who as we all know has legitimate <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/cosmicvariance\/2006\/04\/26\/relatively-pleasant\/\">astrophysical<\/a> roots.  May also has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.banguniverse.com\/\">book<\/a> coming out that certainly looks good, although I haven&#8217;t seen it up close myself.<\/li>\n<li>A couple of blog carnivals that included CV posts:  <a href=\"http:\/\/geekcounterpoint.net\/files\/GC046B.html\">Philosophia Naturalis<\/a> (physical sciences and technology) and <a href=\"http:\/\/debunkingchristianity.blogspot.com\/2006\/11\/carnival-of-godless-53.html\">Carnival of the Godless<\/a> (fairly self-explanatory).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We should just start a separate blog, and have every post on each consist of links to the other site.  Just for balance, one link that doesn&#8217;t link to us:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A great explanation of the Beyond Einstein program by <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceandreason.blogspot.com\/2006\/11\/beyond-einstein.html\">Charles Daney at Science and Reason<\/a> (via <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/catdynamics\/2006\/11\/beyond_einstein_review.php\">Steinn<\/a>).
