Julianne

Never let it be said that you can’t teach an old blog new tricks. In the interests of broadening our fan appeal and staying au courant, Cosmic Variance is bringing in a new contributor. Julianne Dalcanton has been a longtime commenter, and is also an astrophysicist at the University of Washington. We’ve set up her own author page and everything. Everyone welcome Julianne! In the immortal words of Pink, we better get this party started.

  1. Hi Julianne, Welcome !!! Aren´t you a bit afraid that by becoming an author here, somehow the universe will conspire to make you to move to California?

  2. Welcome, Julianne! Hmm, another west coast blogger. Looks like CV might need to institute an affirmative action program for the rest of the country. At least you’re not based in California.

  3. Welcome Julianne!

Saw your photo and thought of a caption:

“My Very Educated Mother Just Showed Us Nine Planets”

I guess it’s a few months too late for it now that Pluto has been demoted.

  4. I will hold the East coast at all costs.

At all coAsts, you mean? (Awful, I know that…)

    And yes, welcome Julianne!

  5. Awesome! This just means even more edifying posts to read while avoiding other things. Coincidentally, one of those things I’m avoiding is actually finishing up my grad school application to the University of Washington for astronomy! Maybe I ought to mention Cosmic Variance in my statement of purpose…

  6. Welcome! And there’s nothing wrong with California (well, except for the record low temps messing with the citrus crops, the state budget, the governor, the faultlines …)

  7. A bit late for the welcome but nevertheless a very welcome addition to one of my favourite blogs. Imagine if we’re still reading what will we be equivalent to this bog the next time your comet comes round, now how’s that for optimism 🙂
